How to set up a free Minecraft Server on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)

Note: You can opt for an always free virtual server but you will need to sign up to OCI and add a credit card. 2020.05.09-LP

Step by step:

  1. (For Windows 10) Download and install PuTTY and PuTTYgen.
  2. Create an SSH Key and save the Private and Public key files.
  3. Create the Virtual Machine instance (Oracle Linux)
  4. Setup and save your PuTTY connection to the virtual server
  5. Install Java
  6. Install Minecraft RCON (a remote server administration tool ) and Minecraft Server
  7. Configure ports on the VM instance for Minecraft
  8. Run commands using PuTTY to open ports on the virtual Linux server.
